Bob: Where are we today, Ted?

Ted: We are on the Miller’s front porch Bob. It’s morning and they are late.

Bob: Tommy is sitting on the top step. One shoe is tied. The other shoe is not tied.

Ted: That lace is loose.

Bob: Yes, it is.

Ted: Now that is a problem.

Bob: He lifts his foot, and the lace slaps back against the wood.

Ted: That is a problem sound.

Bob: He tries to tie the shoe.

Ted: It’s not working yet.

Bob: He makes a knot.

Ted: We don’t know that.

Bob: It looks tied.

Ted: There’s been no test.

Bob: That is a knot Ted.

Ted: Not yet.

Bob: He pulls it tighter.

Ted: That’s too much Bob.

Bob: The loop collapses.

Ted: That did not happen.

Bob: Oh yes, it definitely happened.

Ted: If it comes loose, it didn’t happen.

Bob: He tries again. Slower this time.

Ted: That looks much better.

Bob: He makes another loop.

Ted: Hold it Tommy, hold it

Bob: The other lace goes around the loop.

Ted: Stay. Please stay.

Bob: He pushes it through Ted.

Ted: Don’t rush it boy.

Bob: He pulls it tight.

Bob: The knot sits in the middle of the shoe.

Ted: Not yet. Doesn’t look right.

Bob: It is tied now.

Ted: You can’t tell. There’s been no test.

Bob: Tommy stands up.

Ted: This is the test. Here it comes Bob.

Bob: He lifts his foot—

Ted: Yes. Yes.

Bob: —and stomps it down.

Ted: That counts. I think that’s a good one.

Bob: Tommy runs toward the car.

Ted: He made it.

Bob: The lace stays still.

Ted: It happened Bob. He made it work. That’s the story.
