Episode 1 — The Button Beneath the Floorboards

The wind chased itself around the old house all night long. Milo lay awake listening to the creaks between the gusts. When the house finally settled, he crossed the floor to the loose board near the window. It always tilted just enough to see underneath.

Tonight, something glinted there.

Milo reached down carefully and pulled out a button. Small. Green. Chipped along one edge.

He turned it over in his paws. The back was dull with age. One side felt colder than the other. It did not belong to any of his things.

Milo held it for a while without meaning to warm it. Then he carried it back to bed and tucked it beneath his pillow.

By morning, the button still held a little of the night’s cold.
